Yes sad but I honestly think a few have been trying to hang on when hand on heart they knew it was all over. The upturn that i'm sure some were counting on hasn't happened, and those companies that used to buy up those on the edge don't seem to be doing so this time round.
At the end of the day, the cash or credit has just run out for those that need it to get by, or rather credit isn't being given like it was, and lets face it when's the last time you rented a dvd...
Same with Jessops really
In my opionion these latest Companies are going cos of the internet tho, not the economy Online Films like Netflix, photobucket for yer pics...
Expect one of the Daily Newspapers to go soon
I agree, Jessops DID have a great business, but now that 'quality' cameras are on nearly everyone's mobile phone, their market had decreased.
The internet has certainly changed the way that shopping is done, and yes I am sure renting a DVD is getting to be a thing of the past.
I am surprised that the daily newspapers are still selling, so yes, probably be the Mirror or whatever going tits up very soon.
So friggin much for the Mary Portas survey. How much did the Government pay her for that. Why do these surveys at great expense when they aint gonna implement them. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Its been revealed today that Axminster is going into administration and 400 jobs on the line, thats 250 years of history down the pan, they are exploring ways of rescuing the company, but whether its saved or not is to be seen..
The worlds oldest taylors are shutting this month after 400 years... Tissimans in Bishops Stortford
Apparently the camera makers Kodak are going bust. A spokesperson said...
"We don't want to be negative about this, but will just have to see how things develop"

Staff are saying they 'feel like the rug's been pulled from under us' and 'no-doubt it will be swept under the carpet'
C'mon guys, even though your jesting with your jokes and as funny as they are, people are about to lose there jobs.

No use crying Gary, No such thing as a 'job for life' anymore. (Unlike when I started at GPO as a Telephone engineer!)
Nothing lasts, and although I feel sorry for those who face unemployment, it is a sad fact of life, in this over populated small Island, which spends more on welfare handouts for the undeserving than helping the ones who should get help!
I was going to blame Tony Blair, but can't be bothered answering the socialists who will no doubt start ranting :)
Im not crying Alan Im merely pointing out, its bad enough when jobs are lost but to joke about it even in good taste in these times isnt really a laughing matter, and in these times when business's have been established as long as axminster or any other company its not good.
Forget socialism and politics, what about joining the peoples front of judah or is it the judas peoples front, I can t remember. Watch Life of Brian, that will give you an insight to life. :)

Seriously it is awful that long established UK brands are failing. It is sad, and I can't see things getting better. Thank god I am not young any more, I really worry for my daughter, and what she is going to have to face in this country in the future. Maybe Australia would be a better bet?

Thing is Alan would she be able to get in to live and work as there immigration laws are spot on, there is a website that gives an insight on what skills and how to guide to move over there, but there is an age limit of 44 I think. I will dig it out and send to you as I was going to do it myself a couple of years ago. :)

Didn't mean for me Gary! , shes 26 but happy in a relationship so doubt she would want to go anyway.
I do look at things and can't see much light at the end of the tunnel, in regards her getting a nice house and such.
She does have a good job with RICS [Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors] but as I said no such thing as total security now.

Im totally emotionally detached from all of this I have mentioned the mine closers previously we saw family's fallout all and never talking again some even wanted to kill each other I had a slightly right winged veiw as I felt that they had brought this on themselves to a degree. I lost some friends over this as they thought it did not effect me but it did I had to lay drivers of because of there unionized inofficentys forcing the voting of a government that wanted to bring them down. They brought this on themselves and we all lost money as we supplied their suppliers we were the boys at the bottom of the food chain (or coal heap if you like). These workers now did not bring this on themselves lets hope they soon find work they must be good employable people. I howver will never forget those dark old days and I just dont even think twice when I hear about these things Like you with your daughter I have grown up boys and I worry but what happen here equipped me with the will to try to teach them the way to go. That is don't depend on an employer your only real hope is to take care of yourself and thats an even bigger challenge. We are in a bad period now but we should be optimistic there will be goods days ahead in time. If you are a new young person in this industry try to weather this storm. We love boxing along this part of M1 so lean on the ropes and keep you gloves up and get it back in the next round!
Let's try to keep the politics off this thread guys, it's not going to end well!

This lame comment says more about you than anybody else
Barnsley, do you where flat cap?
Wear.. The word is wear
They can't spell in Barnsley, so its ok Rob
Hold on am I missing something here? Is this the comedy thread?
If your writing your piece and a little red underscore appears below your word, that means its a spelling or punctuation mistake.
All you do is right click on the word and a choice of correct spelling options appear.
Choose the correct one and i wont ever have to try and translate what you are trying to say ever again
My feelings of despair are beyond comprehension I'm frightfully astounded and yes I sometimes wear "an at" but that tells you very little about a Yorkshire man
Take no notice Mr B. They're just comments from sarcastic sh#ts who wouldn't have the guts to speak to your face like that.
I will point out my comment wasnt pointed towards Mr B, it was pointed towards an idiot abroad who cant reply to a copy and pasted article, who was also pointed out a spelling mistake who then thinks hes OK.. I think Mr B is correct in saying not very many know a yorkshireman, I live there and still dont knew em properly
Are we heading for another Monday of insults, slagging off and general misbehavoiur in the classroom?
Me.. Noooo Sir!
Mr Gas. Wasn't pointed at you it was pointed at AJM. I love Yorkshire, I've got a caravan up there. God's own country.
I was in no way insulting anyone. I was merely drawing attention to the fact that the lack of punctuation and the spelling of Barnsley's post made it practically impossible to read.
So much so that I gave up trying after the second line.
If someone feels that they have something to add to a forum topic, then that person should make some kind of effort to ensure that their post is readable. Otherwise their advice and opinions, regardless of their validity or value, have been wasted.
Scott.
Guess I aint missed much then

I don't normally make comments to often on this, but had to this time. I am the DM of my comany with three full time drivers including myself (for a time), it's Monday and was looking at the exspenses i.e fuel and feeling a little de-motivated. . This read was spot on and back in the fight.. Cheers Bob!

And you are?
We all have fighting spirit just like the Jack Russel (as the bulldog is no longer British), and to a point the fittest will survive, we all have a bumpy road ahead and Mr B has hit home the obvious. So Mr B I take my hat off to you sir! Regardless of mistakes or not.. I read and understood it perfectly, ( I suppose it helps knowing a few from Barnsley who are on FB and they make bob sound English. LOL).

I agree completely.
Nowt we can do change or die its a fact of life.
The only way this country is going to survive economically is by looking after itself. Forget about PC bull****t and concentrate on building up industry and the jobs it provides. Act like the Chinese or Yanks, be ruthless and bold, be like the British of old. Throw out foreign illegals, rapists, pickpockets, murderers and job stealers quickly and painlessly as possible.
Victoriana rules ok... lol
Yeah why not, it worked before :-)
For the few that seem to be immune from boom and bust you're probably right, for the rest of us i'm not so sure
Where would you send them John? Deport them to Australia? Would you include van drivers driving without GIT insurance?
Your obsessed with git insurance, why don't you name and shame everybody on here who isn't displaying it?
I'm more obsessed with self-righteous people who can't get their own house in order. Plus, I don't need to name and shame, it's on their profile. It's up to them anyway, but I wouldn't give any work to anyone without git insurance, (or cant be arsed uploading it.).
Poeple keep going on about insurance every other day, it's getting a wee bit boring, ok don't give any work to anybody who dosnt display git, you have made your point.
Personally i'm not sure i'd use anyone who displays thery're a git
LOL. I'm an old git. Is that ok?
Maybe some do not upload their documents because they have no intention of obtaining work?
I'm being a miserable git does that count?
Maybe we should elect a prefect to check everyone's git insurance and fill up the ink wells and polish the teacher apple?
