isnt F O R S an organisational thing not a driver qualification. Its an audited system whereby you have to as a fleet reach a certain standard training record keeping servicing environmental etc.
having said all that i have just lookex again online and there is a section for online driver training.
Yes, it's not compulsory but I have a client in Sheffield who supplies London Transport (the tube) and they will only except FORS drivers!
FORS only covers 7.5 ton and above not under 3.5 ton
also includes vans Bill
Who's it for? FORS is voluntary and open to any company operating a fleet including vans, lorries, mini-buses and coaches..
Checked with FORS all drivers will need to be registered, no matter what size vehicle. Whilst it is "voluntary"if the delivery/collection point requires it you would have to apply. They cannot answer the situation where we mainly use subcontractors. Basically say we would have to sub contract to FORS registered operators.(Being held to ransom comes to mind)
I sort of got that impression the way it reads, any contract that is let with London city boroughs etc will insist you are FORS accredited and yes Bill if you turn up at say a council depot etc then you run the risk of being turned away, not sure of the logic if you are delivering a screamer lol.
i should have added in the post before last that its open to anyone who wants to do business in London with city councils etc.
