I bought one of these today (hope I did the right thing) but does anyone know of a website I can go to that will tell me all the specs etc for that particular motor. Looked but can't find. Thanks in advance.

I looked at those before getting a Transit. Nice little vans, based on the Ford Focus I believe, which is a superb drive.

why are they and others still taking about gallons when we clearly have to buy fuel in litres

AJM sameday Couriers

Load length 2007mm ? just big enough for two euro pallets then but only if properly stacked with no overhang whatsoever. My one at present have no bulkhead although some time there was so will have to source another.

Try ebay for one, you might have to bide you time, I bought one off there for my berlingo

Good idea, will have look now , thanks. There was one originally but it was taken out and a couple of seats put in it's place as it was only used as a crew van and never carried much weight, apart from the 4 big burly builders maybe, (so may have been overweight most of the time). :)

Had a look and saw some nice plywood ones for lots of pennies, woodwork was one of the only things I was good at in school (aeons ago) so will get my unused jig saw out and make my own for the cost of the ply and fixtures.

And therein lies the problem - you are legally restricted to the same speeds as 3500 kg vans i.e. 60 mph on dual carriageways and also the daily duty hours rules -

http://www.transportsfriend.org/ops/vans.html

Daily driving - In any working day the maximum amount of driving permitted is 10 hours. The daily driving limit applies to driving on and off the public road.

Lets not open THAT can of worms!!

Can of worms it may wll be but certainly some law enforcement officers do become agitated at the sight of a Connect being used like a Berlingo and take the opportunity to investigate further.

The "advantages" are most certainly outweighed IMHO.

6 o' one & half dozen of the other I think. But how many 3.5t van drivers stick to the domestic driving hours? Can't say I've read of many being done for exceeding the hours, or even one for that matter.

Lancashire evening post about 20 years ago, had one of there drivers doze off and was killed about in the middle of the night.

I worked with a chap who also drove for the Lancashire Evening Post, every thursday after a 9 .5 hour shift, he would drive over to Skegness from Preston delivering the Farmers Guardian and get home at 3 am, he dozed of in Staffordhire on the M6 coming home and hit the central reservation and wrote of an escort van, so accidents do happen.

I'ts knowing when to stop and take a break, walk round etc

IMO if someone is going to drive for hour upon hour and then they nod off due to their own stupidity then if it can be proved it contributed to an accident or whatever then they should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Maybe it's a good idea I have a Ford Connect because then if I think Mr Plod is taking an unhealthy interest in my driving hours then maybe I wont needlessly want to exceed them too often.

Mr AJM, slightly off topic I admit but in the case you mentioned you mentioned is the Lancashire Post not somewhat responsible as well for 'allowing' an employee to commit a breach ?

Been there and done that. Like most employee's , any driver who wants to keep their job , does not inform their employee of issue's unrelated to profit . So go tell the boss , you need tax disc , tyres, maintenance to keep running ,and action is swift to ensure the vehicle runs. Go tell the boss about 'concerns' over working hours, or breaks, or sufficient rest, and that driver is marked for early exit. The van can be driven by anyone. A driver is a minimum wage cost.
Here in leicester, you can work 15hr days for a national yokel parcel company for £6.19 flat rate. 6points or less, and no accidents for 12 months. Thats a requirement by the way , not a bonus to be earned.

I believe any boss who aint a 'flybenight merchant' will want to keep profitability up by ensuring his van or vans are in a safe and roadworthy condition. I wouldn't like to think my motor was responsible for killing or maiming someone because i couldn't be bothered to change some worn out brake shoes, profit or not.
