Hello I thought I would make myself known. Due to circumstances in my carrier, I am now nearly 40 yrs. And gone self employed as a freelance motorcycle courier.

I have just set up a ltd company and looking for the jobs. I have made some good progress I think in the last few weeks. I've been working in and out of London and the south. But the millage rate is rubbish. So I'm concentrating on the freelance work.

I'm based in the Portsmouth/Gosport area

I do have valid Courier insurance, however I have been told I don't need GIT on a mike as its all documents and letters. I would like some guidance on that from the more experienced please? Or is it covered on the bike insurance?

I have been contact local business's with not much success. I have also been contacting other courier firms with some success. But I guess it just take a while to get trusted in the business.

My bike is a Moto Guzzi Griso 1100. Fantastic bike and I love it. So I think i need to get another one for courier work as I don't really want to kill my pride and joy.. I don't really know what to get tho

GIT is not a legal requirement and it is unlikely to cover you for documents, as there really is no replacement value, it's all about consequential loss which cannot really be insured. However, you may find you are asked to carry a mobile phone / ipad or some other valuable spare part, in which case GIT insurance would be needed.

Thanks for the advice 'CE'

Any ideas on boosting my income of jobs? I was reading in another thread about covering 300 miles a day. I'm not there yet..

Hi Fresh If you do get GIT on a bike read the small print, the goods are usually not covered in boxes which are not factory standard which is about 99% of bike boxes

I'm not the best person to consult for motorbike work, although it is always worth asking when you see a 'car job' on here, if it will be OK to do it on a bike. Whenever we have document jobs, we always list them as a car, but motorbike bids are always welcome for this type of work.

We had a job today, a laptop from Edinburgh to Newcastle, then later on the same Laptop was picked up again and taken straight to Manchester. A motorbike could have easily done both those jobs.

Also worth noting that some GIT insurance cover will NOT include laptops being moved by motorbikes, so although it CAN physically be moved, read the small print to make sure you're covered

You'll be surprised what is and what isn't covered
