Hi all, Firstly I have all the correct Insurance for what I currently do, but I have just been given a ramp so I can move motorbikes etc, and I was wondering if I would need different insurance for this. Many thanks Mark

As far as i'm aware, no

Unless you mean a ramp so that you can jump the bike over the van?
This is a right mine field, as most insurance companies stipulate no connection to the motor trade, I would think the people you want to speak to is tradex as they seem to be a little more flexible, I used to have a policy with them when I a full time motorcycle alarm fitter,
you will also need to find a GIT policy that will also cover it,

I wondered how long it would take you :-). I lost the bet with a guess of 5 mins.

thank you twice lol.. Just interested as was looking on shipley yesterday looking at prices charged yeah i know not a good guide but was feeling nosey and there was one bike being bid on and in the messages bit there was a war going on between couriers putting each other down for not having insurance to move motorbikes... Not very professionally approach i felt but guess some people will do and say anything to get work at the moment.

Thanks Springer i will check my GIT policy

Thanks Just another string in my bow, did a job the other day and was asked the question if i would be able to move some bikes from time to time. be silly to turn it down just want to make sure I have the correct Insurance in place.
i really don't think its an issue

Yeah reading through my policy at the moment looks like I will have to stop moving Nuclear Waste though " dam it " lol But don't see a problem with The Bikes as yet .. to many words.

Hi,
all this is a little late but I have just been the insurance quote thing,
Van compare is by far the cheapest I have found,
£641 for a 45 yr old with only 1 sp30 and a few years NCB,
I have double checked it is ' carriage of goods for hire and reward'
on 56 plate berlingo, the only other nearest quote I have had was £900!!!
includes
legal protection,
life insurance (£10K)
and RAC roadside assitance
thought this may come in usefull at renewal time!!
PW Courier Services
Hi Dave what's the name of the company for future use
Ere, its not the carriage of goods and rewards that matters. Its the constraints of your business.
If you are moving unknown goods under deadline to mixed locations, you need courier insurance, and that costs alot.
My quote from van compare , very similar conditions to mr springer was quoted at over £2000. with 5yrs NCD, no endorsements and 1 small van , kept offroad in a village.
If i picked van driver for a road transport firm , it was around £475.
Which one will payout if one of your relatives is hurt by accident and the word courier is in the business title of driver at fault ?

I used van compare saved a lot, insured with moorhouse, £1000 for courier ins, with 3points and they mirrored my full no claims across from my car saying if i dont claim that next year i will have full NCD on the van .. Nearest quote to that was £1600, they know have my business for my GIT and PL ..
Is that NCD transferable ? its a sales tactic to offer a so called NCD including car IF you stay with the insurance. On leaving ,you may find that 2yrs is 2yrs van NCD. Thats why on comparison sites, there is specific questions for van or car NCD.
Again, GIT is not all the same. some exclude attractive goods like laptops, camaras etc.
I have asked the same questions as i have renewed my insurances.
I found by accident a site called Quoterack. Then a broker called A-plan called me back.
And we worked out a policy for me, not a tick box general mix.
Try them yourself.

NCD its not being transferred as I have still got the car, just mirrored a service they offer and if it helps to reduce costs im not going to complain, and if after a year they provide me full NCD on my Van well its a bonus.
Im paying £1500 for a 59 plate Transit 350.140 thats with a £200 excess and covers europe thats fully comp. I used 6 yrs no claims from a car policy, my other halfs on it as well so i surppose it should be we not i, we are 29 & 27 years old .
