Has anyone or is anyone currently using izettle as an extra payment method.. And what are your views on this mobile facility?

Ive certainly signed up and I have my card reader on the ready, I see this as an extra service provided for card payments, and with charges alot less than other card accepting companies @ 2.7% only, its good value and doesnt hurt the client as much on the pocket compaired to others..... I have read the T+C's and read the FAQ's, looked into the company and they seem to be above board and provide a very good service. The only thing as I can see is the gullable accepting dodgy cards if they cant spot a scammer and a chargeback is raised, but the izettle does mention in FAQs about taking measures to prevent this.. And if guidelines are followed they will back you to the end.. And the good thing about this is you can put a face to the transaction..

Your thoughts please..

I looked at iZettle and it does look good.

But am I right that there's still no means of taking a card payment on a mobile if the card holder is at the other end of the phone? That's why I haven't signed up for one.

Yes you may be right, but you can still take payment without the need of the cardreader as long as the cardholder is present. But there are others like PP who do that sort of transaction. This is ideal for remote payments or office payments etc..

Heres an extract from izettle FAQs

Can I use the iZettle app without the card reader? Yes, for MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club you can do so by manually entering the card details directly into the app.

Without the card reader, the limit is £100 per transaction and day for both private accounts and business accounts. The fee is £0.10 + 3.5% of the transaction amount for MasterCard, Diners Club, and American Express payments.

For Visa transactions, which don't use the card reader, the fee is still 2.75%. Read more about how to take Visa payments here.

Please note that you cannot use iZettle for remote transactions, for instance when making a sale over the phone. Please read more in our Terms & Conditions, paragraph 16.

Heres paragraph 16

  1. Verifications in connection with a payment transaction

16.1 The User shall, in connection with the payment, perform the following verifications:

The Card The User shall, by visual inspection ensure that:

• The Card bears the signature of the cardholder; • The Card does not bear traces of modifications, and If deficiencies occur in any of the above respects, the Card shall not be accepted as means of payment.

Signature The User shall compare the cardholder’s signature on the signature receipt with the signature on the Card. In cases of doubt in this regard, the Card shall not be accepted as a means of payment.

But you can also accept visa by phone to phone. This is how it works:

Visa

To take Visa, the transaction works a little differently. You don't have to use the card reader, and the transaction is completed using the cardholder's phone.

  1. Enter the amount then.... select visa payment
  2. Enter customers mobile number. press send.
  3. He then Enters his card details.
  4. Done!!!!!

We have tried barclays 'pingit' which seems easy to use but there is no real substitute for a traditional card machine, I have one in the van with an internal modem which seems to have the ability to swap between networks,

I heard from iZettle but haven't ordered it so far. Am I not supposed to pay for the dongle from iZettle?

I am using www.sumup.co.uk. Same 2.75% Revenue Commission from the transaction. Support is perfect and i haven't had any issues with the app itself, which is quite important for me.

Imagine you are taking card payments and the server is down?!

I would prefer Sumup.

I paid £20 for the card reader as the headphone socket version costs, as apposed to iphone which is free, but I do get a voucher for £20 pounds off against transaction fees so your first twenty quids worth of fees is free, so might charge for transaction fees from the start off and make £20... thats business

As for the app its very simple to use and as long as you have a signal for the G4/3/2 thingy / tinternet, you should be ok and if it doesnt go through its held in the system until signal is reached..

Ive just seen Sum up... They are similiar, and both use phone signals but sum up doesnt accept American Express or diners club but it could be worth having to cover all cards..

UUumm well Ive just signed up, and page 3 asks for Bank details...(I dont think so).. I zettle works like everyone else, first signed up, you log in to izettle and similiar to paypal you log into your bank and follow izettles instructions, and pay izettle £1 with a unique reference number to verify.. I will stick to izettle, not someone else who Ive never heard of and have to give bank details.. So Im out..

I joined izettle as well. Free card reader for iphone and ipad plus it takes all cards including amex and diners which paypal doesn't. I still use paypal mainly as it is usually over the phone payments people prefer and i use virtual terminal for such and payment goes into the paypal account immediately.
