Hi, I've been asked a random question from a customer about transporting rare fish. These will need to transported urgently as soon as they are collected due to the value and damage it may cause to the fish. This is a question I've never come across before. Would courier and git insurance cover such a delivery. How would be best to do such a delivery. The customer does need these to be delivered as soon as possible once collected for obvious reasons. Do you need some sort of training to do this kind of delivery. Any constructive advice welcome

I saw this a few weeks ago when i was researching DEFRA registration, Http://www.defra.gov.uk/aahm/files/Guide-Health-Checks.pdf, the second page refers to courier movement not sure about insurance side of life though. Hope it helps.

Get a heavy duty plastic bag from b& q fill it half full with water, add some salt then some slices of bread, hang it up in the back of your van and you should be fine.

You can move em, but you won't be insured. As long as your customer is aware. I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole

They are askng if I would be insured, but personally I think it would a bit risky anyway as these are tropical fish and very expensive

They are doing the packaging into a heavy duty plastic bag, 50% filled with water and put into a box with heat pad.

Just charge them a premium price for a 'specialist delivery' but make absolutely sure that they understand you are NOT liable for any problems the fish may encounter.

You was right Gordon, DEFRA is the place to get the info from. I've asked a number of people and they all said the same. I called them and say all you need is transport authorisation.

I've been in touch with them, they have sent me an email with all the info. I'm going to have a good look through it before I commit to it, to make sure its worthwhile.
