Hi as a newbie to this site but not to industry and after doing a lot of reading and net working, there seems to be an awful lot on pricing and how low a driver will do a job in a competitive market, or is just how much a customer is willing to pay.

One big issue in my personal opinion is big courier company's charging customers silly rates just to grab the contract, meaning drivers will get paid less, they do this by justifying that the driver will gain more drops and bac loads. but realistically this means for the driver more work and mileage and normally ending back at same rate of a proper paying job.

Even the customer losses as they receive poor service (get what they pay for i guess). late deliveries means less repeat custom so less profit common sense to me..

only guy who actually wins are the big courier company's.. quantity over quality does not work..

Bac Loads what are these, but just another way for companies to claim every job is a bac load, yer fair enough offer this service but at decent price so it cannot be advantage of.

As I have sent of my pricing to quite a few protential customer it will be be very interesting who accepts them, as my prices properly the not the highest but certainly not the lowest, (as a lot of companies offering work seem to get involved in the pricing war on the forums)

If a customer wants a decent service and a driver who will represent there company in a professional manner, (as the driver is actually the face of your company) shouldn't we deserve a decent rate for quality service..

.. good service deserves good pay

.. good pay means good service

.. good service means no late deliveries

.. no late deliveries means repeat work for driver and customer

.. repeat work for drivers means loyalty and slightly lower prices

.. repeat work for customer means more profit always..

To me it SIMPLES stop using drivers that do jobs for silly money, don't work for customers that pay silly money chances are they will try to still carry on looking for it to be done cheaper else where.

Right folks my rants over for the day take it easy on me folks just my opinion, gonna prepare the Sunday roast.

Hi PC I totally agree with you the proper rate for a good job. If you can't make a profit what's the point. Most on here pay a fair rate.

Spot on.. I for one dont haggle on price to the customer, thats my price and this is my service.. I use TLC for his services and as he's ol skool and provides what Im looking for with no complaints from the monies department either.. I see it like this if the customer wants the service badly they will ask for it.. Otherwise there loss. And I dont pay low to subbies, in fact I got a quote from a decent courier who offered low and I could have made a lovely profit, but Im fair and offered what I normally pay.. I certainly dont take advantage.

I believe in if you pay peanuts you will certainly get Monkeys..

From a Courier Companies point of view, our prices are dictated by 3 factors:

  1. How much the customers are willing to pay
  2. How much our competitors are charging
  3. How much sub-contractors are will to do the job for

It's difficult getting the balance right, but if we get it wrong, then the phone rings all day and we do not convert any quotes.

Morning and welcome pc couriers, I agree with Gas Motorcycle Couriers. Its very helpful to have companies that trust you to do a good job. A company called me last week who I had done a couple of jobs for. They asked if I was anywhere near suffolk as they had a job loading 6am to go to Derby. I said I was clear in Lincoln that evening and I would normally look for the next load from as close to there as possible going anywhere. He asked if I was willing to drive down to Suffolk empty for him and agreed to pay my empty diesel and a decent rate for the Derby job as he wanted me to do it. So some companies that want a good service are willing to pay for that service.

Careful or you'll get banned... It may be misconstrued as a dig at an mtvan member

Are we allowed to discuss rates anymore? I forget

PB Express

It's all pointless

As long as you have B. B. F. F. Out there then prices are not going to go in the upward direction

These people have no morals whatsoever it wouldn't matter if fuel jumped to £2 per litre it

Would be no skin off their nose because they don't run vehicles and they don't purchase fuel
