Sounds like a customer 'scamming' if your driver said there were 55 and they signed for 55 then the problem is there's surely ?

as far as i'm concerned yes.....be interesting to know the legalities though

Well its got to be there mistake if they have signed for 55 its down to them to check on delivery.
Surely if there were only 54 they would have written on the sheet "received 54" or words to that effect not "unchecked"?

exactly wot i said!!!
Surely if it's taken them 3 days to find out there's a box missing and they've signed the POD as "unchecked" then that's their problem. I mean, 3 days? Anyone could have walked off with one of those boxes in that time.

Anytime someone writes or stamps 'unchecked' on my POD notes, I always think ... well, on your own head be it mate.
Unchecked usually means "not inspected for damage" and the receipent is also signing that they have recieved that complete consignment.
We had a problem in 2003 where we delivered 62 boxes for Business Post, Around 6 months later they raised an issue with a missing box and wanted to claim £1200.
I pointed out that the goods were received and signed as per the docket, No discrepencies were raised verbally within 24 hours, No written discrepency was raised within 21 days. Furthermore 6 months later cannot be entertained.
The lady said those time restraints weren't practical, I said yes they are because they are more or less identical to your own terms and conditions which you impose on your own clients.
Anyway they didn't have a leg to stand on really.

While Delivering for Interlink last year I had a small clothes package to deliver, when scanned came up leave safe, so due to the size I posted it, an hour later got a call customer not received her item, so I told them i had posted it etc but the office said can you pop back and see them, annoying but I said yes and asked what was the item .. it was a cream blouse.. anyway later I popped back and the woman answered the door wearing the cream blouse still with labels showing, so I said oh you found your parcel I posted then .. No she said .. so I just said well your wearing it... oh was that your parcel you delivered oh im sorry thought it was from somewhere else and closed the door on me, phoned the office.. problem sorted.. just goes to show though some people will say anything...
I can remember a one of our drivers delivered some boxes from Nottingham to Sheffield a few years back and we had a call saying they hadn't received the items, I had the driver call them direct and describe in detail where they were left but they still said we have not received anything.
I sent the driver back up who the walked the manager to exactly where they were delivered to and they were still there, I then recharged the journey again and got paid again.
I think this was quite in order as they were adamant that they were right.

too right, annoys me when you get that situation , many times i have had to go and show someone where there items where, some people just cant see for looking, and a major lack of common sense, so yes good on you for making them pay twice no more than they deserved.
