This is a message from Nottinghamshire Alert Information sent on behalf of Nottinghamshire Police (Please do not reply directly to this email, please use the Reply button at the bottom of this message) Message sent by Lindsay Donnelly (Police, Administrator, Nottinghamshire) Police warning regarding clever credit/debit card scam Police are warning residents to be wary of accepting any unexpected deliveries following a credit/ debit card scam highlighted following an incident in Leicestershire. A victim received a telephone call from someone claiming to be from a company called "Express Couriers". The caller asked if the resident was going to be home because they had a package to deliver in about an hour. An hour later a delivery man turned up with a beautiful basket of flowers and wine. They victim was surprised as they were not celebrating a special occasion and the package was unexpected. He enquired who the sender was but the man’s reply was that he was only delivering the package, however, a card was being sent separately. There was a consignment note with the gift but no card arrived. The man said that as the package contained alcohol, there was a £3.00 "delivery charge". The victim thought that this sounded logical and offered to pay him cash. However, he said the company required payment by credit or debit card. The victim provided his details and was asked to swipe the card on a small mobile machine, enter his PIN and security code. A receipt was printed out and given to him. Over the next four days £4,000 was charged or withdrawn from his account at various ATM machines. In light of this incident Police are warning residents to be wary of accepting any unexpected packages or gifts especially if it involves payment as a condition of receiving the package. People should also never accept anything if there is no indication about who the sender is. Police would also advise that no credit or debit card details are given out unless you have initiated a purchase or transaction and know it is from a trustworthy source. If you have fallen victim to this scam or similar and have paid out funds please contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101.

Aren't people disgusting Whats wrong with doing an honest days work for an honest days pay. Things like this never surprise me, I just find it disappointing how low people go.

They go so low because they never get caught, & if they do get caught they dont get punished, bring back some proper punishment, or will human rights get in the way.

Would you do it tho....just cos you can and probably won't get caught?....no....cos most of us are honest decent people with a conscience....

A growing number it seems don't have one

Over the last two 3 weeks i can honestly say i have save 2 derby based companies in excess of £8000. Both companies were happy to let us collect the goods as they had been paid (or so they thought). Yes we lost out as both jobs for us were cash on delivery, But it's not right for us to earn money whilst knowing local companies are being screwed for alot more.

Would you not find it a bit strange that a delivery company calls you before making a delivery?

Whether you find it strange for a delivery company to ring beforehand or not isn't the point is it

There are always going to be those that are naive, those that are too trusting, those that are vulnerable to these low life scum who try and take advantage....the alternative is to assume everyone is out to screw us an thats not a place i'd like to live either....like i said...just a sad reflection of todays society

Despicable.

Here's another scam for you (seems to me like one anyway).

I wanted to register the a new domain name, and I checked that it was available. No one had bought it - no surprise cos 'camvan' it's quite a random word. So I told Yell, who had designed my old site, that I wanted to register it.

A few days later I got an email saying that the domain had already been registered, so I'd need to buy a different one or, presumably, offer the new owner of the domain a big fee. I thought it was a bit odd, so I checked it out and the domain was purchased within 24hrs of my requesting it. The email address of the purchaser doesn't appear in any google search, and the guy also has three other non-existent companies registered in 'his name'.

I did report it, at the same time as cancelling my account (for numerous, repeated breaches of contract, not to mention a turn of a site). They admitted that it looked odd, but didn't sound too eager to do anything about it.
