Just wondering if Pronto posting his every move in news feeds could be classed as spam as it takes up a lot of space and my posting at home keeps disappearing of then front page LOL, now i dont want to upset anyone but is that what the news feed is for? or maybe some other part of mtvan. As always i stand to be corrected.

Posting journeys.....as in pronto from A to B
so what's the point?

i was under the impression that it was a news feed as in something new that is happening out there maybe some useful information, someones update to a profile, not to post your journey to and from, if that is the case then the whole feed will be jammed first thing in a morning with no space for proper news, just hundreds of couriers telling each other where they are going to,or from. Pronto post every morning 20 to 30 times on his journeys and i was asking if that is classed as spam or is that what the feed is for, like i said i stand to be corrected.

please dont take this as me having a go at Pronto, as i am not.

I do find the journeys page not very user friendly

I thought the idea of news feed was to post your journeys so people know where you're going so you have a chance of a double-up or a backload from where you're dropping. Pronto put lots of jobs on here, and long may it continue. That's the point of this site!!

i am not argueing that he does or doesnt post jobs, the point is that if pronto, speed et al all started posting in the news feed every journey they do then just because of the sheer volume of work they have the feed would just be a mass of journeys with no room for any of the "smaller guys". Eg...i post empty at home and it appears in the news feed but within seconds of doing that in a morning it has disappeared down the page and no one can see it, or am i missing something here.
I'm with you Mike....cos they all come in mega blocks i don't look at them, and i doubt anyone else does. I think he does it so the alerts go to him from those different areas ( i may be totally wrong with that), or he's trying to let us all know. If so then it'd be better bein shown in return journeys (it may well do but as i write its ain't opening) which was showing in the courier directory section (again can't confirm cos that ain't opening for me either)
The bigger issue is that we're not interested where anyone is until we get a job that's in that area, and as we rarely get advanced bookings then we're unlikely to take any notice. So this is really only beneficial if the system "remembers" and sends you relevant jobs as they come onto the system...i.e the system does the work for us.
As i understand it unless you TELL the system where you're going, then it will only tell you of jobs near to your base...i would say that is the purpose of Prontos lists, and if i'm right, then absolutely no need for us to see any of them

Cheers speed, you got the point i was making, if you or the other big players ignore it then my posting empty and at home just doesnt get seen, it gets lost in the melee of journeys....... Can i call you Bob now....lol
Like i said i'm not sure if its for the benefit of the reader or the system....if for the system then i say take it off the news.....maybe we need some extra tabs
Empty at home
Will be clearing in....
Recommended Cafes....lol
Now there's an idea....lets collate the Courier Cafe Guide

Yep i am with you on that one.
I agree with Speed on this one.

I'll second that. We need something that gives us text alerts on jobs available near our destinations, not just near home. Admin, is it possible to input your destination post code and arrival time and get alerts when you get there, or even on route? ps. I know you can keep looking on the site, but that's not always practical.

Your question is way off topic (edit: good question though), please start a new thread.

OK, I think officially for something electronic to be classed as 'spam' it has to be unsolicited, i.e. not asked for. So while I would not class lots and lots of empty postings as spam, I do know what you're getting at.
I do not think Pronto is spamming you/me/the site and I do not think he should stop posting empty. In fact I would invite everyone to 'spam' the news feed as much as they have the time to do. The problem here is what we do with the data we record as it's our job to try to present it in the best possible, most useful way imaginable. Over time the amount and type of data we receive varies and how we display stuff needs to be re-addressed... perhaps now or sometime soon would make sense.

sometime soon i feel....i used the term "spam" in the loosest possible terms as a generic term for lots of information at same time.
By the way its not him posting empty its him posting his every journey thats what is taking up the space and everyone elses post disappear into his posts, Speed has already said that he doesnt bother reading the news feeds because of it, and i am sure he isnt the only one, i am saying that prontos "journeys" are not
news`.
Hey I'm not saying i don't read the news feeds, i'm saying i don't read his notifications...big difference
Fastback Parcel Solutions
sorry.....misrepresented you on that one
