AJM Sameday was interested in knowing what classes as freight on the Eurotunnel.

In simple terms, what is classed has freight on the Eurotunnel?

This is how I understand it: If you're taking products/goods that are going to be sold, or used to make something then its classed has freight. If its samples or for an exhibition it's not. I'm probably totally wrong and would like to clear this up?

Anyone got any advice?

The way I see it, if it's going to Countries in the EU it matters not a jot, if it's going to Switzerland ffs sub it out to someone else

Its down to the person making the booking if you declare your small van to be just going on a little drive and they then discover your hauling goods you may have some questions to answer!

Quote from their website: "Vans carrying COMMERCIAL GOODS FOR RESALE must be booked through our freight service. Vans carrying non-commercial goods exceeding 3 cubic metres in volume must also be booked through our freight service. "

I mostly carry camera and broadcast rentals, temporarily shifted from one company to another for productions: football, concerts, TVshows, golf,... And NEVER had any questions asked so for (I've been doing this for over ten years now, twice a month on average).

Their "commercial goods" regulation is a company rule, in my opinion simply meant to get as many vehicles as possible to pay as much as possible.

To avoid confrontation, I ALWAYS pre-book online and check-in at an unmanned, automated booth. No questions asked.

Customs nor police ever seem to care what I am carrying, as long as it's nothing illegal. Yet they regularly check or at least ask about my load. Every now and then I get to take new camera gear or other audiovisuals from UK to EU. Even in those cases I never ever had any problems with customs or police. To me it's crystal clear that this is a commercial rule aimed at making more profit.

I don't think you should be on here if I'm honest, and I'm surprised admin have allowed it.

Not sure this comment is warranted?

MARC Spedition sounds like exactly the kind of company we want on mtvan. He does courier work, some internationally, does some forwarding, and has a GB VAT number on his website that checks out ok.

And he may be a useful source of advice and good prices for ferries as well.

Remember the golden rule above all else... the mtvan forum rules add up to: Don't be negative about newcomers.

However posting "We sell ferry tickets" on several threads can't be good practice.

2 threads, both that are about crossing the channel, one specifically about what is the cheapest way.

Don't worry, we will intervene if there's a problem. Currently there isn't a problem, feel free to let someone at mtvan know by PM if you think there's something we've missed.
