Here we go again!

You should have some sort of plan, if you have to ask the most basic of questions, it's a worry that self employment will work for you.

You should know what you need to earn to make a living?

If you quote less than your 'overheads' and what profit you want, you are on the road to ruin.

Good luck, but do some 'leg work' the answers are pretty obvious

And once again the board is flooded with recently redundant or looking to get rich quick individuals who own a white van or know someone who does.

The expert has his critics but at least he has produced a handy guide to becoming a courier and what is "potentially " involved.. even though a lot of it is typical of american marketing gurus ****.

Hi Michael,

I would echo RLT's comments. You need to put together a plan and think about the costs involved in becoming a courier.

In addition to the link to Tonys Guide, there's plenty of help available on this forum too.

www.mtvan.com/forum/starting-out

There's various insurances you'll need to be thinking about, as well as the cost of a vehicle and running it.

As with very many industries, you'll find a lot of your potential customers will want to be billed for work you do and will pay for example on 30 day terms. This is especially tough when you start out as you'll need to survive and keep working for some time before payments are received (depending on your customer).

How much to quote has been discussed many times, and it's down to your costs on the whole. It's worth remembering that it's not necessarily being cheap that will bag a job (see the 2nd post in the following link)...

If in doubt please try searching the forum for relevant info, there's quite a lot on here now.

Hope that helps.

As I have said before your marketing is very poor and the fact that you have a "FREE" guide which no-one knows About until now confirms this.

Why not allow visitors the option of 2 entry points... 1 for experienced drivers 2 for newbies ..the newbies will automatically be directed to Tonys Guide before proceeding.
