Thinking about starting as small end parcel delivery have small 900kg van as own transport. 3 questions .
Would like to know if any one has experience of CRV Courier ( http://crvcourier.co.uk )? They clam to offer a sort of franchise for work in sole area but 80% of there list is empty. the web site looks suspiciously like red driving school (lets drive . instructor collage, or any other flavor name of the year prior to being liquidated) been caught by that one still paying the debit
Also where is the best place to get advice on insurance van is insured for personal travel to and from place of work at the moment with Agus how do you deal with goods in transit for site such as this?? and what is the normal/standerd level of cover used
How do you get in with the bigger company (tnt dhl yodal )for this local work
thanks in avance for your help.

Crv i'd stay away from in fact i'd stay away from any franchised based courier quick fix solutions.
as for level of cover g.i.t depending on size of van small van between 5-10k, as for the so called big boy's dhl yodel tnt city link pop in to your local depots see if they require any subbie's for your size van, also network with your local same day courier companies aswell as approaching small local business in order to obtain a small client base of your own, aswell as using sites like these to top up your work load whether it's extra jobs on route to where your going or returning from.
what you put in is what you get out of it the more networking you do the more you'll become a familar face & gain trust in order for companies to provide you with extra work hope this helps.
May i ask you tell us more. What van , age of van. and what experiance will you bring to your role ? Some potential client might be reading this right now.
Insurance. try Coversure(rubery office) or A-plan( tooting office) cost around £2k +
remember to state you are a courier, as on call despatch with deadlines means you are not a haulier. GiT plus liability £250+ .
Bank. Youll need lots of capital maybe £10k. for day to day costs - you might be spending £100 a day on fuel alone. Then you won
t get that back for maybe 3 month`s from slow paying clients.
Network. Go see, and ask. then go see again ,then go see again.
Forums. read back thru all the forums on this site for past 6 month's.
CX. You might want to join courier exchange.
RGM Courier Services
Have a look at this and other free forums. Theres lots of impartial advice. Stay clear of franchises it's usually a sign a company is in finanacial difficulties and is trying to recoup its money at your expense. eg. Amtrak were selling franchises a while ago and went bust shortly after.

I was stupid enough to buy there CRV Guide but would not invest anymore in their business.
I'm sure it has some useful info in the guide so not a waste of money, as long as you don't fall into the trap posted above
CRV = stay away, just another money grabbing bunch.
there was another site i came across today a forum for owner drivers seemed ok & free called cod not in as the fish but courier owner drivers, some thing usefull for all the guys just starting out for first time. so in comparison to crv 100 pound it's worth it for free like i said why pay for some thing if you can get for free.

The CRV Guide was insightful, not regretted, but I downloaded Tony's Guide at weekend (£4.99) big chuffin difference aint it.
