Do you remember when you broke down and everyone got out of their cars to give you a push? the camaraderie as we all struggled to get the old banger going again and always someone who fell flat when the motion picked up

I haven't seen that for ages..

What happened? whenever someone breaks these days they sit in their car and just wait... Even when the car has a couple of blokes inside!

Why? Why is there such laziness on the road these days?

Think health and safety or fear of being sued if someone pushes falls over, or poss that more of us now have proper breakdown cover.

Yes i understand compensation culture has crept in to it... But i'm on about car owners who just sit and sit and wait for something to happen... The thing is even when its a young woman who has broken down there isn't a rush of drivers willing to help... How did this happen? Are we all to busy to help someone in distress? Or as you said... The breakdown man will be here in a minute so leave it to him

Come on then... Answer honestly. Push or ignore?

Are we talking young good looking woman? Seriously tho depends where the breakdown is and if it is safe to pull over and offer help.

iI think its about reliability more than anything else. Gone are the days when cars broke down all the time, so people have forgotten the etiquette when it does happen...

Either that or they really don't give a sh**

Or maybe its cos cars can no longer be fixed... The parts are just replaced, everything is in a sealed unit, so nowt anyone can do

I will often stop and ask if someone needs help although not much help under the bonnet but have changed a tyre or two in my time, I noticed a people carrier dragging a flat Tyre on the outskirts of London, so I pointed out to the woman driver who looked a bit panicked by it as she had too young ones in the back, she pulled over and asked if she could drive the 5 miles home on it, well it was already smoking so no chance so I changed it at the side of the road, chatting away and she asked if I had kids and what they were into etc etc, got it changed and she was on her way, two days later a Game for the DSi came through the post for my son's birthday which I thought was really nice (she must have got the details from my hi vis)

I pulled over to give someone a jump start the other day. Tried a couple of times and realised it wasn't a problem with the battery. Then both stood there investigating for a while, pretending we knew what we were doing.

He then admitted he was a little low on fuel...I ended up driving to the nearest petrol station and brought back a can of fuel, and hey presto!

The fella starting telling me he was not long out of prison (James @ Mr G, this was in Shard End) and I'd restored his faith in humankind!

I left with a warm glow.

Be careful when you give someone a jump start. You must use a surge protector or disconnect your battery otherwise you'll blow your CPU. Was told this by the nice man from the AA after I gave someone a jump start and blew my CPU!
