I agree, entirely, Rob. I rarely take the time to post on here now because, 1. the lack of response or 2. When I do get a response the quote is ludicrously high or the guy joined "yesterday" and because he gets a text he thinks the job is his and wants to know how much he is going to get paid.
Hi,
I quite agree I never have problems with the other site and because it is quite expensive it does deter the flash in the pan couriers who have bought a book and expect to earn £500 a week in the first month! And the other advantage because of the 'big brother style' the way the site is managed if you do work for a shady non paying muppet (like we have on this site) then they get kicked off
which is something lacking here!!
any one wants to email to be warned please feel free to!

i'm sure "the other site" had rogues in the beginning...the beaut of where they are now is they now have the choice to pick and choose because they are successful....again its down to chicken and egg...initially you're just happy to take anyone as you want a busy site....both for givers and takers.....and once you're developed you can whittle out the wasters and bad payers etc etc.

Hi Rob
Good to see you on mtvan.com.
What kind of incentives do you think would work and how?

We've added at least 3 months upgrade to every user account on mtvan (whether previously upgraded or not), and some free txt alerts, to see if that produces better results for our Vendors.
That's over 1000 members, and they've all logged in in 2011.

The 'yellow one' has its share of rogue traders as well. Experience and good use of the established feedback system usually helps me to stay clear of them. Perhaps MT Van might consider setting up some similar feedback idea here. Could prove useful.
Rob Hi,
How are you diddling?
To others
I am a member of Courier Exchange. It provides a very effective courier service. I would recommend it, for those of you, us, that can afford it and have significant volumes of work. I do.
A number of years ago I was a member of mtvan. Its owner, Courier Finance, went bust. Before that, I used to describe it as an effective, efficient, good value and user friendly site. Reponse to job alerts was good. I got my work covered easily. After CFL went bust, I joined Courier Exchange.
Mtvan started up again. Tim gave free membership. I did not use the website, other than to recruit more "subbies" (I still need bikes N. Kent area).
In June I paid Mtvan £75 to upgrade my free membership. Since then I have posted 16 jobs. Only ever had one response, Maria at Ajax Couriers. On the website messages like 325 members notified, 224 members notified. No bids. There is something seriously wrong here!
I have posted 4 threads on the forum, one relating to V.I.P. Sameday. No responses. There is something wrong here to.
I am struggling to understand why, when Mtvan was so good before now I receive no calls, no bids and no responses to my threads etc.
I would like to hear from members of the old Mtvan, who are now members of the new Mtvan.
Are my experiences unique, do I smell? or perhaps they have other explainations.
Kind regards
Tony

Hi Tony,
Hi Richard
I am very interested to hear that the forum only started just before I formerly joined.
Secondly you are addressing all of the gremlins that seem to be present relating to the site and also my human errors.
Kind regards
Tony
I am sure I have never heard of or written CFL, or Courier Finance. Are my entries being doctored?
Website Admin
Hi Tony, Courier Finance Ltd (CFL) operated mtvan in it's previous incarnation and was the company that went bust. Edited for accuracy & legality. I'll make sure I leave a note in future.
Many thanks
Tony

Well, this really is an enigma to me. 2 jobs posted today, 26/08/11. 590 couriers alerted and not one response!
IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE?
Most of the jobs I get notified about indicate post code to post code. When you are on the move this is not a lot of use. I would suggest people posting jobs indicate place name to place name. You may get a better response to your postings.
yes I agree its batter place to place then post code to post code
Morning All,
I must admit the lack of response to jobs posted is a bit annoying,
I noticed today a total lack of response to a job posted this morning and the majority of work posted is days old!
I think Horse and flogging comes to mind!!!!!
I think the whole thing needs a large boot up the proverbial to weed out the non paying uninsured fly by nights and old work not being managed!!

I disagree about postcodes v placenames. Sheffield is 12 miles from one side to the other, which makes a difference to bids.
Any courier worth his salt knows that G is Glasgow, B is birmingham etc. and that S1 is sheffield S80 is worksop, S70 is barnsley, makes a big difference!

Gotta agree with you there...postcode to postcode is deffo much better and you should know yer postcodes in this game....sad to say that'd be my subject on mastermind...lol
sounds obvious but why not have both?
Scott Reid
On the issue of postcode v placenames, get a smart phone. Then when you get an alert that is of interest to you, you can just log into MTVan, click the "make offer" button and see instantly exactly where the locations are. Simples.
