Hi all,

With the current climate up and down, I am curious to find out on people's thoughts across the county what vehicle you find has the most work?

I run 3 lwb sprinters and 1 7.5t. The reason I got 3 sprinters is with the view I could cover all van work from small vans-4m sprinter jobs.

Over the last year it would appear that 62% of my work would of gone in a swb transit or smaller. This is now making me think of changing a sprinter to a swb vehicle.

I look forward to seeing what your views are.

Thanks

Or a mixture of Bikes, small & lg vans?

But your customer base I'd have thought was the clue, wherein the type of goods delivered would dictate what fleet to have available.

That's right, however, once again we get into the realms of 'Trust' and the chance of jobs being screwed up.

Sorry I digress :)

Definately Bikes and small van... Your correct in saying Alun, about the clue and type of goods would dictate what sort of vehicle would be required.

I've used over 800 subbies in the last 5 years alone, some just the once, and some that have subsequently "joined" us

Only a handful have let me down, and only two that ended with a complaint which were quickly resolved, so this trust thing, although important, hasn't hampered us in any way

Without them, we wouldn't have a business, or not one that would give me a living anyway

Subbing jobs is part and parcel (sorry for the pun) of giving the customer what they want, and that is, availability

So digressing apart, the size of the vans in your fleet?

Whatever you choose, you'll always need bigger, you'll always need more

I'd say about 15% percent of my work is now small van work, most has been from existing customers some of whom had been using other couriers in vans to move their larger jobs, its probably only in the past year the van work has increased to this level gradually getting asked by customers about van jobs. Less than 1% is large van work

How often do jobs get booked as transit van which would have fitted in a small van, or vice versa? I've been to one or two where they didn't even realise you can fork a pallet into a small van, on the other hand I've been to the odd one now and then where I couldn't get it all on.

I was sent to a local job by our friends at AET TRANSPORT. He told me it was a small table and 4 chairs.

It was a banqueting table like "king Arthur's" that certainly wouldn't fit in my van and im sure would be difficult in a transit too. My point is "communication" and how important it is to glean as much info from the customer so that the right size van is sent.

As for the king Arthur table i left that one to AET to sort and we all know what happened to AET and Russell Causebrook
