Really busy day (and overnight) yesterday. It just never seemed to stop.
I know most of our customers are closed now till Tuesday, so hopefully will only be the emergency breakdowns today.

We even had to sub as few yesterday, and thankfully a couple of new subbies did a good job too. ( always a concern).

Must say though that we tried a few drivers who had written or called, asking to be included on our preferred drivers list, who either didn't answer their phones or went to voicemail. A couple answered and have packed it in! Surely though if you had a missed call, that can happen to anyone, would you not return the call? These didn't!

Must say though that yesterday was very busy, and unusually so for us, with a lot of new (probably) one off customers.

A bank holiday and a month end, and a financial year end rolled into one. Yay!

Might be for you but historically [over 20 years] not for us!

No last minute panic to get things covered up here either, mores the pity. New years eve was my busiest day and quiet since, just as well I have something else to fall back on.

It does, but then again I suppose it reflects the different type of clients one has?

Also I hear many say that January & February are always 'dead' yet we find June & July usually are slowest times.

I would always return a call!

Do you return calls from unknown numbers? I certainly don't as it often turns out to be ppi or double glazing and if they want me that bad i expect them to call again. Now if i recognised and had the number saved that would be different.

There in lies your answer...

Speed Couriers Nationwide Ltd

If you're only ever going to answer calls whose number you recognise then how on earth are you going to grow your business

Silly argument

Every phonecall is an opportunity, so if you knock one, or fail to answer one, then you're missing an opportunity

I answered the phone yesterday to a National Company who had several deliveries to cover, but their regular courier was closed for the bank holiday

Now i'm not saying i have a new account, but i've got a much better chance of getting my foot in the door than i would have if i'd not taken the call

I can't believe you wouldn't answer an unknown number, just of course it could be a sales call but that goes with the territory, be polite and to the point and if they continue talking put the phone down it wouldn't be rude as they continued to talk when you didn't want to.
