Hello Simon
Bearing in mind the recent threads on mtvan i am somewhat surprised this question has come up. I also note that you state you are able to carry ADR/ Haz chem goods. Is this right?
I fail to see how you can offer to carry ADR but then suggest you haven't got any courier insurance. Its a bit contradictory?!

Yes, it is a weakness i will admit to. The temptation to respond is sometimes just too compelling :)

I stand corrected.

To answer the poster, you need proper courier insurance, hire and reward, and goods in transit insurance, as the name suggests, to cover the goods you are carrying. You will discover, very quickly that courier insurance is high, too high for some but if you have an accident with a parcel onboard without it, your car insurance will be null and void. Not worth the risk. Some go for light haulage insurance but thats another story (use the search on here and you'll find several threads on this) There are a growing number who cut corners and do none of the above, and it is them that are dragging down our industry, that and vendors continually expecting couriers to absorb the hikes of insurance and fuel, making it an industry that is very close to being unworkable.
You will also need a car that doesn't mind doing excessive mileage!
