Been on about getting our o'licence for sometime, but i have been subbing it all to one company and i make a nice bit on top :-)

But one company we work for has offered me a run to reading everyday (eveinings), and 2 runs to manchester, 1 run to wrexham, 1 run to telford within the week, all artic work

So do i go for it and get 2 trailers and 1 unit, working the figures out if i do the evning run every night and take a drive rpart time for the other runs in the day, i would make around £4k profit per month, but if i sub it out if im lucky i might just make £1k

Contracted in and reviewed every 2yrs

Hi, I had a V8 530 Scania left hand drive in silver with the red griffin on the side. Sometimes I wish I still had it, lovely truck. As to do you dont you, I would say with the profit you are talking about and it is on contract then I would say go for it. Contracts for small artic owners are like gold dust. Most just end up pulling for whoever and get what they are given. The fact you have what I would call a school run you can work out pretty much what your costs are. I would say think about the possibility of maybe if you didnt keep the contract, worst case scenario then what would you owe to it. You dont really want to end up just subbing work here or there with it. I did this for 8 years uk/continent and it really is a hard slog. The costs are big for trucks. I am not being negative just realistic. I think you have a great opportunity with what you have said and if I was in your shoes I would go for it. I wish I had a contract offered when I had mine. So good luck with what you decide, I will try post pic of my Scania so you can show your wife and say I want one like that. All the best Kev

Simple dont go for v8 unless you get a good driver it'll eat fuel and you'll make 1k profit.

Look for something like an cf or Renault premium there cheep to buy good on fuel and payload And don't forget the driver cpc. Will need to be factored in to any costings

One of the renault premiums (spelling) i used to drive 2002 ish i was getting 11mpg :-)

It will be mostly me driving so a v8 isnt much of a problem, and the part time driver im thing of is semi retired,

Problem is it starts in 2 weeks lol, ive got it sorted for the 1st 1 months until we get sorted hopefully o'licence should be a problem as the truck would be parked where they already have 30 trucks and they have 24hr nuts and bolts on site as well,

Thansk fro that, ive got my eye on 2 v8s 1 480 topline 03 people are saying they are getting 8/9mpg out of these, but the other i think it may be a little old w reg 530 topline

I would take on the contract then sub it out to any East European who ignore the cabotage rules and park in any available laybye/industrial estate for many weekends on the trot for about £1.30 per mile run loaded with an ex Royal Mail red CF.

Seriously though I would recommend getting a Renault Premium full auto box version. Volvo engine and g/b are reliable good on fuel and reasonably cheap to buy second hand. Obtaining an operators license should not be too much of a problem if your character is squeaky clean and is of 'good repute', you have I think over 7.5k in the bank as ready cash (that figure may have been reviewed by the ministry man) you hold an ops CPC or have someone available who does. Have an operating base, maintenance facilities Etc etc etc.

Failing all that go for the first option!

For the same money you could get a newer daf or Renault tbh it'll be less of a VOSA MAGNET too as most v8 s that old are well and truly battered get the shells and bottom end done before putting it to work

Old v8 scania = money pit And that les from experience. Merc 1844 wipe the floor with man on fuel at my main customers. The usual unit I use on 54 plate easily does 11-13 mpg the nearest man is on 9.5
