I am wondering how many couriers do a credit check on companies BEFORE you offer them 30+ days credit on invoicing. Or do you not bother and take a chance on them?
If you do do a credit check, who do you use for this service?

Companies house and all the usual to see how many failed companies the person has had gone down the pan previously is always a good guide to see if you are likely to get stiffed.

You may not get a clear view from this as Courier companies who have sold tend to go down the voluntary liquidation route as part of selling a profitable and successful company.
I thought we were talking about end users, you only have to ask around with courier companies to get an idea of whether you want to work for them or not.

I am not sure that its viable to do a credit check on every end user whereby the job is less that £200 in value.
Being new to the industry, I may be forced to do a credit check on courier companies who approach me for sub work, as I dont have an established network of couriers who can advise me on yet.
Hence this post.

But then if there are several it could make someone wonder why they would bail on several 'good' companies in succession.

Not every end user gets credit, one off's certainly don't!
I use a friend of mine who does company credit checks, shes brilliantly at what she does... I have had no bad payers and all have paid within time.
this is an extract from her website which may of use. If you want to use her services drop me a pm, with details and I will have a chat with her, to see if she can take on further work..
FACTS: Late payment of invoices starts from the date when the agreed payment period between the company and the client as stated on your invoice has passed. If no credit period was stated, the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998 specifies a 30 day payment period after which interest becomes payable.
