Hi members I'm researching into medical and blood transportation. I would appreciate any advice on how to go about this including qualifications, training, type of vehicle needed etc etc. This is just another service that i'm looking at for my website.

DMS NATIONWIDE COURIERS
A difficult one to get into as it generally goes out to tender for, and that means an awful lot of hoops to jump thru.
Good luck

I'm just researching to see if it could be another service i could add. I normally research for about 3-6 months before i commit to anything to be on the safe side. I had a delivery for the national blood service last week, but you need to have ID card to transport blood and have some sort of training, but i cant remember what it was called.
SMH
Adr awareness, tnt (i think) do the bloody but its 24hr call out and you have to live within so many miles for where the bloody is collected from

So how did you get to work for them last week?

I didn't in the end because i didn't have the training.

I know a couple of companies that do National Blood deliveries, and as Rob said it is put out to tender, with many hoops to jump through.

That's not what you said so shed 5 :-)
I've done this kind of work in the past delivering to the centre in Sheffield. Had in house training at a previous company and keep a spillage box on board at all times. Let me know if I may be of help anytime.
We do most of the work for NBS for a 3rd party.
Seems we have a lil old loophole in that drivers who have done the odd bit of subbin for TNT can call themselves qualified in moving Blood... Yes true enough, i have someones card as evidence given to me today!

Haha, Same as those who have done the odd job for them delivering to a Bank or a high profile National company, then see fit to declare via their websites, even using that companies logos, that it is one of their own customers!

Dont do it! As mentioned previously you have to jump through loopholes, Bikes are the prefered transport, if you were to do it on a bike, you would have to at least take your advanced test, then join your local bike group or start your own, as I see it its a charity based, so if you think your going to earn a living out of it I would definately research it as I understand it they may or may not supply a livery bike, they may or may not pay for your expenses, heres a group that do it in North Yorkshire, so make your own mind up.
I do on the odd occasion take samples from a Lab in the peak district down to London.

Why are you quoting YET AGAIN on something you know nothing about and criticising once again! I have worked alongside TNT for the past 20 years. We are qualified to the training procedures laid out by NBS and TNT, and to Train also.
I also worked for 5 years as a Medical Motorcycle Courier with The Doctors Labs 2006/2011, carrying viruses, Blood, Semen etc... So I do have knowledge and Training which I pass on to my couriers.

I don't think you have your facts right on this. I have had the TNT/NBS training which I then supplemented with research via the NHS website on Human Tissue and Blood transportation. There is no requirement to take an advanced driving test unless you are doing Blues and Twos work. I have been doing this type of work for a while now and have had no issues. As long as you follow the guidelines set out in the documentation provided by the NBS and carry the card that proves you have had the training all is good.

I think the qualification you need to do this work is to be a Thinking Courier, not a slam it in the van and hammer it down the motorway courier. Can you tell me what the Qualifications are for this type of work and what these loopholes are, is this something I need to be aware of.
I bow to your superior knowledge Steve
Ever thought about writing a book?
Darren (DJ) I was talking about Blues and Twos runs and not general transportation..

It is quite rare for Blood to be transported with Blues and Twos, NBS have their own Vehicles for this service. I think the Original question was based on General Courier Transportation of Organs/Blood, That's how I read it anyway.
