So does it mean the more posts you make the higher the reputation you get ? I would rather be considered a right numpty for my posts and get a higher reputation for carrying out jobs satisfactorily.

Our reputation system is still in development and will likely see significant changes yet.
Currently though you can gain reputation for all sorts of things. Post on the forum +2, quoting for work +5, being trusted by another member +30, positive feedback for doing a good job +50 and so on.

A bit like the premier league for drivers then?

It's a common way on many community websites to help encourage useful behaviour (i.e. award lots of points for insurance details upload etc) and also provides a rough guide for other members to gauge someone else.

It's a very good way to encourage participation especially in the forum as long as you don't get too hung up on the rep.

Rep feedback means jack, do a good job, please the customer if they happy they use you again. Don't get complacent talk to customers on regular basis and dont get complaints simples.

Might mean jack to your customer and you're right about pleasing your customer etc etc. However if structured properly it will not mean jack to the people you work with on the site. Feedback and scoring/points systems are proven to be able to have a positive influence in encouraging whatever desired behaviour you design them too.

Also if you take a look at various peoples profiles I think the current reputation scores represent a fairly good overview of a members status on the site and/or length of time as a member. Not bad for a first stab at least.

I think it's a good idea admin.... you seem to working hard on the site and this is the most progress ive seen in years. Well done keep it up.

It is basically a good idea. But I don't see how getting points for posting on the forum improves your reputation to do a job. Surely the fact that some people are posting on the forum day in day out is an indication that they're not gettig much work, and therefore not very good at their job. (Controllers excepted!!)

I agree that posting on the forum is far less relevant than receiving feedback about jobs (hence the large difference in points gained) but I think can help build a profile about someone. I would say that the only way the value of forum input is likely to go is down though, but to do that we will try to collect more data about the kinds of things being posted.
Being allocated a job surely merits some points, I'd even suggest that the current +10 for posting work should change to +20 for both parties if the job is done through the site.
I would also suggest a negative score of -100 if you haven't logged on for a month, and for each and every month thereafter thereby telling us the member is inactive.
