Boring it may be, but no less important.
What saddens me is that many like the original poster don't think it's relevant to them, and it is.
If you think that people being encouraged into the industry without adequate insurance, therefore invalid insurance, has no impact on you, then you are as deluded as the main protagonist.
It enables both to undercut you.
Our industry is unregulated, and the quality of service offered, like it or not, is being affected.
It is up to exchange sites, and those that use them, to try and erradicate these types of drivers, and those that continue to use them.
I'm not one for unnecessary bureaucracy or red tape, but something needs to be done.
As the main protagonist a certainly am not deluded

So I champion that you become the chair along with mike of shed5 and start a regulatory body for couriers
Lets call it the Federation Of Master Couriers
As for your reply to my post
I think that any one whom operates without the relevant insurance should be hung drawn and quartered. Pinned in the desert with mirrors pointing at their arse.
A simple |"send us your insurance by e-mail /fax please" would suffice

Self regulation, isn't that what the banks did?

When it comes to check, mike from shed 5 is on the ball at all times. He even sends you an email to let you know when its due for renewal. That's exactly how it should be done. At least if you use someone from there, you know they are legit.
Agreed

Surely this is a place for whoever wants to air their views?
Insurance and the workings of a certain vendor are obviously important to many members. I couldn't give a monkeys how someone runs their business or what model they adopt, unless it has an impact on my own company. I tend to just skip over most of the crap and just throw in what I consider to be a relevant comment if I so choose to do so.
Whilst on the subject of insurance however, I do think that this site could do far worse than follow the business model of Shed5. At least if we have the need to sub out any of work, it is comforting to know that most of the 'cowboys' have been omitted taking some stress out of the working day.
Agreed but it is getting a little boring even you must agree Alan
