I made a comment (which was deleted) on another thread,
Is it right to request trade quotes for jobs on a premium rate (lo call or whatever you want to call it, it still costs more than a standard call) number

Call me to discuss this. 0870 123...
:)
So we pay them to find out about a posted job...
No, you email or text us to enquire. We prefer bids through mtvan anyway.
To answer your question Tony, no it isn't right.
I don't understand anyone that has a premium number unless it is to make money at the expense of the caller. Whats the point of having one if that isn't the reason? Enlighten me
I can understand that some want non geographical numbers to ply for trade, but sending alerts out with your premium rate is just not cricket
I'm not buying, I'm asking

Well there's the reasons you might want such a number, sellers must weigh that against the fact that some will not want to make a call to that kind of a number.
Not really a question of right or wrong, just preference.
Indeed and it also comes up as a private number when dialing out, and many won't answer to a pvt number in case its a call centre sales call... But as you say... You pays yer money, you makes yer choice

I'm talking about the number being offered to subbies to call, they appear on the text alerts!

From our point of view, we are not asking anyone to call the number and frankly, i would prefer it if they didn't. Wherever possible, I would like quotes through mtvan or by text message. If anyone would like our text only number, then please PM me and ask.
We prefer to keep our lines free for customers to call in and make bookings, if a customer has to wait in a queue (or gets an engaged tone) then that could lead to lost business.

Do you know of anybody who has been calling it against their will?
I can sympathize with not wanting to call such a number (I don't unless I really have no other option which is almost never) but if it works for the vendor then good luck to them. It's not illegal or dishonest.
Or the next time you get a call from a blocked number - it might be Courier Expert calling to offer you courier work - especially if you have just quoted on one of our jobs :-)
Anyway I feel this thread is aimed at one or more of our members rather than rational discussion of the pros and cons of courier businesses using premium rate numbers.

Mr Speed - While I do claim to be many things - I don't claim to be a comedian. Anyway, I'm going to let you win this particular argument - so if you want to be known as a better comedian than me - or clown - the title is all yours.
You two are getting extremely boring now with your bickering, why don't you both use a bit of will power and learn to ignore each other, Andrew since you have joined the site there has been bickering on a daily basis I'm not saying there was peace before but it's getting boring and what should be a friendly sight has gone the other way, I could predict that next Wednesday afternoon you two will be arguing, my advice is both grow up, if you don't like my comment it's tough.
AJM - I actually agree with you, but it takes 2 to reach an agreement and believe me, i have tried.
Gary i said exactly that to him... He asked for a truce but my suggestion fell on deaf ears so waddya do?
The problem lies with always wanting the last word, so it goes on and on and on...
On codforum there's an 8 page thread about courier expert... 8 bloody pages... And thats just one thread about him... He doesn't know when to shut up...
Maybe he's just vain
i don't think anyone has been harmed in the making of this thread as its topic was spurious in the 1st place
