The problem with improving infrastructure is you're actually creating a problem, not solving one.
If you improve motorways, or build a new faster railway line, you get people commuting from further away, that pushes up house prices, increases local traffic, so you need more roads, then the retailers move in, and build yet another out of town retial park, and that needs stock which comes via the new road you've just built, so you need more roads and so on, and so on...it never ends
The M25 was built to solve a problem and all it did was create one
It had reached capacity within 3 years of opening
So what do town planners and local councils do?
Build Lakeside shopping centre AND 5 miles down the road Bluewater shopping centre... Madness or what i like to call it Corruption and Greed
The south east is now just a concrete jungle of roads, characterless housing estates, people rushing around getting nowhere extremely quickly, and for what?
And if we learn nothing at all, the rest of the UK will follow
