People offering loads just to cover fuel costs home is who... That and people who have no idea what they are doing running un-insured in clapped out vehicles. Jeeeezzzzzz don't get me started.

I can understand backloads but I'm on courier exchange aswell as mtvan and the amount of times these two company's have phoned me tracking me asking me to do jobs then as soon as I tell them my rate they say no chance our drivers don't get no where near that I find amazing mate

£1.50+ to end users. £1.20 - £1.50 for transporters depending on the job. Do not move for less. These things cost a lot to run and are in demand. If people really need your vehicle and you do a good job they will pay your price. Do not discount it's a slippery slope and BRAND NEW MERCEDES SPRINTERS with or without tail lift do not come cheap!

Martin, i've had dealings with both of those companies and they always want it done for low rates. Stick to your guns on Courier Exchange, you will figure out to work and who to stay away from. Your rates should be about £1.30-£1.40pplm, ideally it should be £1.60pplm but you not get any chance getting that rate. Don't even get in your van for a quid, that's just taking the p**s in my book

There's a hell of a lot of companies who get the hump because i won't drop to 0.80pm, and even more who think just because London is "only" 12 miles from here, i should be doing it for about £30, never mind the 3-4 hours it takes to get there and back, some people just have no idea. Stick to your prices

Cheers guys and I don't usually budge at 1.20 per loaded mile the only time I do is when it's Scotland 450 miles plus jobs I no you have to be a bit flexible then but cheers fellas

You may also find that because you are new to the Courier Exchange, that some will try and see if they can get for peanuts, i had this when i first started on there. I was in LWB van and some tried to say they only pay 80pplm. I wouldn't even do that rate in a SWB van. They soon complain on the forums when the low rate driver messes things up. Many on here have said in the past, its not quantity, its quality and will always stand by that. You get what you pay for. Too many think it's all about getting a van then your classed as a courier. That is far from what this trade is.

Maybe thats a good thing companies getting the hump.. Maybe they might start charging the end user more instead of offering a cheap service and passing a cheap rate onto the subbie, maybe they will get the message, but Im afraid theres always someone out there who will offer cheap thus lowering the prices.

I agree with you there

Im afraid it is human nature to try to cut cost. If you go shopping you look for the best buys Having work done on your house you try to get a lower price. Buying a van you shop around for the best deal. So its no surprise to me when people ask you to do a job for 80pplm in a lwb. I just say no. The idea that "if the wheels are not turning you are not earning" is a myth.

I don't do too bad myself, but it has taken a little while to regular work. Mind you, I do still get new vendors trying it on to get the job done cheap, I just say no myself. Otherwise you will get them calling all the time, stick to your guns and the work will come

So Dave Addams how much do you charge to go into cental london?

HSP Couriers LTD

1833

£1-50 plm trade rates. min charge - £60-00

£1-80 plm end user rates - min charge - £70-00

Each job is charged accordingly once full details are given, ie - waiting, handball, special requirements etc.

Deadline Despatch

1825

We cant charge that sort of minimum charge in london. Direct W1 is only £46.80 + C/C people moan at that

HSP Couriers LTD

1833

So in that case we should really be subbing out our minimum mileage jobs in london to yourselves rather than paying £85 for a 1.9 mile job last week, simple load and offload in central london.

Deadline Despatch

1825

Im sure at £85 you dont get that much london work. We get quoted that sort of money when we list one ( which isnt very often cos we got 10 T/L here.

Would be interesting what you would be happy paying HSP... The guys price was his price and he stuck to it and at the time you were er... Happy to pay it to get the job done. Simple load and offload in London is there such a beast? Lol.

HSP Couriers LTD

1833

Not stacks of london work for a luton tail lift, but probably do get 2-3 jobs per week that require a luton (not always tail lift) for london to london work.

With us being based in Northampton it is now handy to know you guys have coverage with 10 TL down there.

I am sure we will be in touch at some point.

As for london, we do have a van that leaves northampton early every morning with various drops across the city and the odd collections to come back to local areas with.

I remember doing a simple document delivery job into central London priced correctly as I thought, haha, didn't allow for a big demo going on at the time, the simple job turned into a nightmare 7 hour job, that cost me. So now when I price London jobs they are charged at a premium.

We had no problem in paying whatever was required in order to get the job done. ? The guy gave his price and we booked it straight away with him no questions asked.

The type of client that books us for luton tail lift work is one of londons top media publishing companies who are responsible for carrying out and organising photo shoots all over london, to them it is more important to have the props on site on time as the cost is covered by the giants such as Virgin, British Airways, Tesco, Boots etc. Just to name a few.

I go in to Central London on bike if document is required if there's a demo switch it off push it on pavement round then start it back up again works a treat :-)

Did call you last friday Deadline Despatch, granted it was one of the busiest days of the year so far!

The same customer then wanted 4 transit sized vans for tuesday morning out of london to midlands but didn't call back as guessed you guys would have been too busy again :-)

Deadline Despatch

HSP sorry about last friday i was on holiday and the office phones went down so all calls were diverted to another one of our offices, And they were only taking account work due to the amount of work coming in. In fairness to the fleet controllers they have been so busy its been unbelievable,

Are these definitely luton tail lift jobs they are phoning you with, or just transit jobs but ones that would fit in your van? I've worked for both companies and they never struck me as trying to do everything on the cheap. Having said that most of the ones I've done for PR would be picking up in Leeds and heading home towards the end of the day so I do tend to quote them backload rates for those.

No problem, yes we were told because we were not account holders that you guys wouldn't be able to help! Which is what we had to do on friday aswell due to the larger than normal volumes of sameday express work.
