Hi all, Help ! please
Has anyone done a job from UK to Amsterdam? If so what route is best and things to consider...
Done it loads of times. Best is Hull to Rotterdam then a short drive. Good food and drink on boat and good cabins. DONT drink alcohol though as last couple of times I went on that route EVERY car, van and Truck was breathalysed just after driving off boat.
By road, via Antwerp, but avoid that area like the plague during rush hour, I try to make sure it's the middle of the night when approaching the Kennedy tunnel. Have queued for hours in daytime hours.
Folkstone to Calais using tunnel through France, Belgium, Holland, back home in the day
Thank you both for the info much appreciated. Cheers gents!
@Rapid Light Transport which ferry company did you use from Hull to Rotterdam?
And then approx distance from Rotterdam to Amsterdam please, apologies I'm a rookie when it comes to Europe.
Its about 50 miles, and P&O
I think you can sail from Newcastle to Amsterdam too.
Certainly saves some driving if you can time it right to fit in with your delivery time.
DFDS from Newcastle to Ijmuiden which is about 15/20 mins from Amsterdam, obviously depending on where.
Hull to Europort which is about 110km or 69 mile to Amsterdam, but can be bit slow during the day. All well signposted.
Takes forever on the boat, Calais to amsterdam is my opinion, calias to Amsterdam is 226 miles
Immingham to the hook its a little cheaper ;-)
Harwich to the Hook might be more direct from Birmingham
I thought we are couriers, what's up with driving?

We do a fair amount of 'carry on' URGENT items by plane! Still comes under the 'courier' umbrella.
As for ferries to save driving, as I said IF timescales allow, it can often be more cost effective to use a ferry. I would sooner go on a long Ferry to Santander for example to go to Spain, and have ample rest and sleep than drive 800 miles! Also less wear and tear on vans.
No hard and fast rule, but it is something to consider
Good crossing alan :-) pompy to bilbao damn it fells like a long time, i was on the ferry every week, out on the saturday back on it the following monday
Ireland to morocco spent more time on the ferries than driving lol

Yes I agree on the Santander, but this is Amsterdam, it's only down the road.

I know Gary, but was giving an alternative. If time-scales allow, it is certainly a good option to sail across the North sea.

Not for me I get sea sick, in 1983, did Esberg to Harwich in a gale, have never been good at sailing since, but yes I get your point
Thank you all for your feed back. @AJM sameday Couriers I will be taking your route cheers
