No doubt like many on here i was made redundant after 12 years in the rag trade... Thought to myself "what do i do now"... Deffo wasn't going to work my butt off for anyone else again, so with a logistics and transport background within the ragtrade, and working as a controller in a busy taxi office (helping out a mate for a couple of weeks turned into a couple of years) this was the obvious choice really. Still took my a good 6 months of doing my homework before opening the door, but it worked for us, and despite a few ups and downs along the way, gives me the lifestyle i want. Ok it may be reactive rather than proactive, which kinda rubs off on everything else you do, but it pays the bills
Much like speed I didn't want to work for anyone else, I love a challenge and I love to drive. Having been a hgv driver in the nuclear industry and latterly transport manager for 31 years or so it was time to try something else ( longer story to that one ). I have always gone out of my way to help people out both in my private life and professional life. I get a real buzz when people tell me I did a good job and helped them out of the mire, a thank you makes me feel good and it was something sadly lacking in the career climbing industry I came from. I guess I am a people person... But most of all I love being on the road, its something I have done all of my life both for work and for pleasure ( Harleys being a passion)

Same here.. Fed up with others pofitting of my back keeping them in luxury whilst we scrimp n scrape, so needed a change and get out of the motor trade.. 3 yrs on and improving, wish i'd done it yrs ago (self employed that is)
Fastback I used to have a 98 FSXTB 1340... major mistake in selling it rare as hens teeth
I was fed up with being taken for granted in the company I worked at for 13 years, I worked hard for that company often unpaid hours, what sealed the biscuit was a knob being promoted because he was one of the directors mate. pro's I gets to ride a bike for work, a real sense of achievement when you do the almost impossible. Con's punctures on bikes, uncertainty of finishing times (missing parents evening etc)
Pretty much the same as Speed. Made redundant after 17 years (education) and decided to move away from that sector completely. Really enjoy working for myself though it can be hard. Hopefully when I know a quite a bit more about this industry I will start looking for my own customers and see where that takes me.
On a side note, an ex colleague of mine has taken redundancy and has bought a Routemaster converted to a bar to go to festivals etc.
Now I like the sound of that
I don't know how to post pictures in here but it is a cracking looking thing. He wanted me to drive the van with the beer supplies and work as a barman.
Is he looking for a volunteer... Lol...I have many years experience in beer tasting I could be chief tester.

Camping.. Plain and simple. Paid to sleep in my iron tent
Still a pauper Gary. But when I did this job a few years ago companies I worked for all had flash cars big detached houses and luxury holidays. Whatever happened.

There houses have repossessed, and there cars have been taken back by the hp companies.
I do it cos I love driving and a service industry background always happy to help people (oh and save the world)
I worked for Ford and Jaguar for 35 years, stuck in an office and factory. During the winter I used to go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. When an early retirement programme was announced at Jaguar, I jumped at it. I was like a pit pony being let out if the mines! When I was a kid all my mates wanted to be train drivers and I wanted to be a van driver. Now I is one and I love it.
