Does anybody know the law regarding the pricing of an item, which is obviously wrong?
If something is priced at £999 and should be £9999, does it mean I can pay £999 and take away the avertised item?

Everything for sale is "invited for offer" the price on it is merely an indication of an offer acceptable to the retailer, they can withdraw an item from sale at any time, once they accept your money its sold! so get it through the till quick
I was under the impression if an item had a price on it the retailers were obliged to sell at that price if they had stock. I once got my triathlon bike for £599 instead of £1599 because of this very argument.
I look at these things logically. If i was selling an item for say £599 and the "5" fell off the price marker. If my wholesale cost price was £399, What's the chances of me selling it for £99. There in my opinion is the answer, Argumentitive customer or not!

A retailer's right to refuse to sell
When a retailer displays a product for sale, legally it is giving you 'an invitation to treat', which means it is inviting you to make an offer to buy. The retailer can refuse that offer if it decides that it doesn't want to sell you the goods.
If the price of a product is just simply wrongly labelled you don't automatically get to buy it for that price. For example, if a TV worth £599 has accidentally been labelled as £5.99 you don't have a right to buy it for £5.99.
Ok, thanks everbody for your answers, so the new van I so priced at £999 & should of been £9999 will have to stay there, cheers
Good job the bike shop knew less about the law than I did....
You will however get it for that price if the assistant is stupid enough to accept your payment after which nothing can be done
I might give it a whirl, i`m a bit to honest tho.
Well you can always try and see if they're ignorant....worth a go....afterall there's a lot of stoopids out there
